Many vitiligo patients believe that treatment means going to the hospital for medical care, and daily maintenance is not as important. But I want to tell you: good daily care can double the effect, while poor care will diminish even the best methods. Today, I’ll share a few simple and reliable daily maintenance tips to help you gradually improve your skin condition in daily life.

1. Internal regulation: Eat the right foods

The recovery from vitiligo relies on adequate nutritional support. In daily diet, ensure the intake of three types of foods:  1. High-quality protein—eggs, lean meat, fish, and soy products, which provide the basic materials for melanin synthesis;  2. Foods rich in trace elements—animal liver, nuts, black sesame, and black beans, which act as "catalysts" for tyrosinase;  3. Dark-colored vegetables—spinach, kelp,木耳, etc., to supplement vitamins and minerals.  Maintaining regular and moderate meals without overeating or picky eating is the most fundamental care.

2. External Care: Gentle Cleansing

The skin barrier in the vitiligo-affected area is relatively fragile, so daily cleansing should be extra gentle. Use lukewarm water for washing the face or body, avoiding excessively hot water to prevent skin irritation. Opt for mild cleansing products and steer clear of abrasive, exfoliating, or highly alkaline irritants. After washing, gently press the towel to absorb excess moisture without rubbing vigorously. Apply a gentle body lotion or facial cream promptly to lock in hydration and maintain skin moisture. Moisturizing is especially crucial during dry seasons.

3. Daily Routine: Regular Sleep

Sleep is the golden time for the body's repair. From 11 p.m. to 3 a.m., it is a critical period for immune system regulation and cellular repair. Chronic sleep deprivation can disrupt the immune system, potentially harming melanocytes. It is recommended to go to bed before 11 p.m. and wake up around 7 a.m., ensuring 7-8 hours of quality sleep. If feeling fatigued during the day, a 20-30 minute nap is acceptable, but avoid exceeding 30 minutes to prevent affecting nighttime sleep

4. Sunscreen: Apply year-round

Many people only wear sunscreen in summer but relax in autumn and winter. In fact, UVA rays maintain relatively stable intensity year-round, penetrating clouds and glass to deeply affect the dermis and damage melanocytes. It is recommended to apply robust sun protection before going out, with hats, umbrellas, and sun-protective clothing being the top choices. If spending extended time outdoors, a mild physical sunscreen can be applied.

5. Emotion: Maintain a stable mindset

Emotional fluctuations are one of the key triggers for vitiligo recurrence. Negative emotions such as anxiety, stress, and depression can affect the immune system through neuroendocrine pathways, thereby impacting the survival environment of melanocytes. It is advisable to find an "outlet" for emotions—such as talking to trusted individuals, keeping a diary, listening to music, or taking a walk. Set aside some time each day for yourself to engage in activities you enjoy

Internal regulation, external care, routine, sun protection, and emotional balance—these five sets of adjustment techniques are all easy to implement, but the challenge lies in maintaining them day after day. Integrate them into daily life, making them as natural as eating and sleeping. For vitiligo recovery, external factors must be avoided while internal regulation is essential. Only by addressing both the root and symptoms simultaneously, with comprehensive treatment from within and without, can the white patches truly stabilize and regain color.
