The face is a high-risk area for vitiligo and also the most anxious part. Every day when I see white spots in the mirror, I inevitably feel uncomfortable. But I have to tell everyone that the face is precisely the part that recovers relatively quickly, because there is abundant blood circulation and sufficient reserve of melanocytes here. As long as proper care is taken, it is not difficult to stabilize facial white spots. Today, let's talk about the three key steps of facial care.
1. Gentle cleaning
Facial skin is thinner and more sensitive than other parts of the body, and the barrier function of white patches is already fragile. Overcleaning or using irritating products will only make things worse. It is recommended that everyone wash their face with warm water every morning and evening, with the water temperature controlled at around 35 ℃, and the hands should not be too hot or too cold. Choose amino acid based, fragrance free, and alcohol free mild products for facial cleansers, and avoid exfoliating, whitening, and other functional cleansers. When washing your face, be gentle and do not rub the white spot area with a towel. Use a disposable cotton towel to gently press and absorb moisture.
2. Strict sun protection
Facial white spots lack the protection of melanin and are particularly sensitive to ultraviolet radiation. In spring and summer, the intensity of ultraviolet rays increases. If directly exposed to sunlight, it can cause mild sunburn and redness, and severe damage to residual melanocytes, leading to the expansion of white spots. It is recommended that everyone do a good job of "hard sun protection" before going out - wearing a wide brimmed hat, using a sun umbrella, and wearing a mask, which are the safest ways of protection. If you need to be outdoors for a long time, you can apply physical sunscreen in areas with white spots, which has simple ingredients and low irritation.
3. Simplify skincare
Many patients use concealer, liquid foundation, BB cream and other cosmetics layer by layer to cover white spots. Pigments, preservatives, essence and other ingredients in these products may cause contact dermatitis or irritation if they are exposed to the leukoplakia area for a long time. If makeup is necessary, choose products with simple ingredients and labeled as "suitable for sensitive skin". Make sure to remove makeup thoroughly, use mild makeup remover cream or oil, and clean with facial cleanser after removing.
Another point that is easily overlooked is that many patients have the habit of subconsciously touching or scratching their faces, or wanting to tear off white patches when they see peeling. These seemingly insignificant small actions may cause minor skin damage and trigger a 'homomorphic reaction'. Please consciously change these habits. In addition, maintaining a regular sleep schedule and emotional stability are equally important for the recovery of facial white spots, as the face is the most sensitive area to changes in internal and external environments.
Although facial white spots can be troublesome, as long as we do a gentle cleaning, strict sun protection, and streamlined skincare, while also controlling our hands and stabilizing our minds, the stability and color reproduction of white spots are not far away. The recovery of vitiligo requires avoiding external triggers and adjusting the body internally. Only by synchronizing the source and root, treating comprehensively from the inside out, can vitiligo truly stabilize.
